Grocery and Supermarket POS Software

Weigh produce at the till, sell by the piece, pack or case, sell the oldest stock first and close each shift with a cash count, in a POS you buy once and host yourself.

A grocery counter is about speed and small margins: scan, weigh, take payment, next customer, and sell the oldest stock before it spoils. Stocky POS is built for that rhythm, and covers the stockroom and the books behind it. You buy it once and run it on your own server.

Weigh and sell by the unit you stock

  • Weighed at the till

Digital scales that print weight-embedded barcodes are read as the product plus its weight. The weight becomes the quantity.

  • Piece, pack or case

Sell a product as a single, a 6-pack or a case, each with its own price, while stock stays in one base unit.

  • Units that convert

Set up a base unit such as piece, kilogram or litre and derived units, for example a carton that is 12 pieces.

Keep the queue moving

  • Scanning. USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners work without drivers, and the camera scanner works over HTTPS.
  • Hold and recall. Park a sale under a reference, serve the next person, and recall it when the first customer is ready.
  • Customer display. A second screen facing the customer mirrors the cart as the cashier works.
  • Cash drawer. The drawer opens through the receipt printer.
  • Payments. Split and multi-payment sales. If the internet drops, sales, payments and stock changes are queued locally and synced when the connection returns.

Sell the oldest stock first

Turn on batch tracking for dairy, chilled and packaged goods. Every purchase line then asks for a batch number and an expiry date, and the till takes from the batch that expires soonest. The Expiry report lists what expires in the coming days, by warehouse.

Promotions, combos and loyalty

  • Promotions. A percentage or fixed amount off chosen products, categories or the whole cart.
  • Combos. A bundle sold as one line at one price. Selling it deducts each component’s stock.
  • Loyalty points. Customers earn points on what they spend, at the rate you set.

Close every shift with a count

Open a register with an opening float, and the register is yours for the shift. At the end, enter the counted cash and a closing note. The Cash Register report shows the float.

Stock behind the counter

  • Reorder alerts. Each product has a stock alert quantity, shown on the dashboard and in the Quantity Alerts report.
  • Purchases. Record suppliers, costs and returns, and import products, suppliers and opening stock in bulk from CSV or Excel.
  • Shelf labels. Print labels from five templates, directly to a TSPL label printer.
  • Branches. Unlimited warehouses with transfers, per-warehouse reports, and users limited to the warehouses they work in.
  • Tax. Customisable rates, including grouped taxes such as CGST plus SGST, with reports by period.

Good to know. The documentation lists percentage and fixed discounts, but not discount rules that depend on a minimum basket amount. If you need those, ask us before you buy.

What it costs

Stocky POS starts at $28, paid once. That includes the source code, free updates for life and 6 months of support. There is no per-till or per-user fee. See all prices and what owning costs over five years.

Where it runs

Stocky POS needs PHP 8.2 or newer and MySQL or MariaDB. See the server requirements. If you would rather not set it up yourself, we offer a managed self-hosted service from $20 a month where we manage your installation.

Questions

Can it read weighed barcodes from a deli or produce scale?

Yes. A weight-embedded barcode from a scale adds the product with the weight as the quantity.

Can I sell the same product as a single and as a case?

Yes. A product can be sold as a single, a 6-pack or a case, each with its own price, while stock stays in one base unit.

Does it work if the internet goes down?

Yes. Sales, payments and stock changes are queued on the device and synced when the connection returns.

Can I sell expiring stock first?

Yes. With batch tracking on, sales take from the batch that expires soonest, and an Expiry report lists what is about to expire.

Which licence does a grocery store need?

Running your own store is one project of your own. The licence guide explains the Regular and Extended licences.

Can I try it first?

Yes. The Stocky POS page links to a live demo.
